Halloween // Custom Clown Ghostface mask

I wanna do a clown ghost face mask and this is my first time ever doing a custom. Should I get the hard type of Ghostface mask or the kinda rubbery ones? Should I use acrylic paint markers or pens? What brand of acrylic paint markers or pen should I use? Should I cover up the eye holes and the mouth area when I’m painting it? Is it better to get, for example, a silver one then spay paint it white then start drawing on it from there? If I wear it, is it safe to breath in?
