Halloween // Is Spiderman only a costume for men?

I am a 17 year old girl, for this Halloween I wanted to dress up as Miles Morales or Richard from Hotline Miami, I liked the Spiderman option the most so I went for it, I have told a few friends about my costume idea, including my mother (who is not conservative at all), everyone has told me that it is a costume for men and that it would not fit me well due to my short stature, but I really want to dress up as one of these characters, I have been thinking a lot about whether it is really a costume for men, but it doesn't seem like that to me.
