Halloween // Cheap DIY Winnifred!

I hate the commercially-made costumes so would love to put together a Winnifred from Hocus Pocus outfit. So far, the idea is a long purple underdress, maybe I could find a fancy green bed-jacket or short nightie for over the top? Unfortunately my sewing machine died and I haven't been able to replace it. Any suggestions or ideas? I will start hitting thrift stores this weekend but would love to hear if anyone else has done Winnifred on the cheap.
