Halloween // Why do we NEED Halloween?

Before you say anything, know that I love Halloween and the season the comes with it. What is be interested in knowing is the more philosophical reason on why why we as people need Halloween. Extra points if you bring up Halloweens position on the calendar before the holiday season.
