Halloween // Decoration help please.

Hello, This is my first Halloween owning a home and we went to go all out decorating. Looking for creepy/scary without being gory as I'm not trying to piss my neighbors off and traumatize their children. Also looking for recommendations on a fog machine. Do those go off on their own, or can it be like motion detected or whatever? The stuff you buy in a store seems up be really cheesy and crappy for a high price tag. And lots of online sites are obvious scams so idk where you start. Any help is much appreciated. TIA
