I’ve been asked this question a couple times recently, so I decided to sit and really think about it. In a weird way, I think Halloween is one of the more wholesome of all the holidays (even it doesn’t celebrate anything in particular). People of all religions, races, cultures, etc are able to bond over the simple joy of dressing up in costume and getting candy. I understand there are some sub sects that don’t participate, think it’s evil, whatever, but Halloween is not specific to Christianity or Islam or Judaism, nor is it specific to the US like July 4th. As an adult I’ve come to thoroughly love the sight of all my neighbors running through the streets chasing their kids, hearing squeals and screams and laughs, and seeing people socialize. They forget, at least for a moment, all the petty things that can divide us. No politics, nobody left out bc they aren’t a member of this religion or culture. Maybe I’m massively over-analyzing the whole thing, but that’s what I’ve come up with. I do love scary movies, haunted houses, decorating the yard and all the other supplemental things, but none of it beats what I think is the real heart of Halloween, trick or treating. So ya, I’d love to hear what y’all think!
