I'm an Autumn enthusiast. My roommate will be spending her first Autumn with me this year and she is a Halloween enthusiast. She's actually an outright ghoul, she keeps dead things in jars and wants to put them out as decorations. But I digress.
I love the season, but I never go very hard. Now, given the COVID situation, and the fact that, frankly, we can't responsibly hand out candy or attend Halloween parties, I find myself paradoxically more driven to 'get it right' than on years where we actually could do the normal, fun stuff. So I guess, in the vaguest sense (sorry), I'm asking for ideas: how do we make the most of this Autumn / Halloween season?
I'm the sort of guy who starts his horror movies at the beginning of October, caps it all off with an Over the Garden Wall viewing near Halloween, and maybe, maybe makes it out to a costume party. But I'd like to decorate, inside and out, as well as do anything else that would be as festive as humanly possible in this dour time.
My favorite pumpkin farm is skipping this season, and while it makes sense--they probably make their money off of hay rides where people sit close together and pumpkins people pick up and handle before choosing--it breaks my heart because I've been going there since I was a toddler. But are there any other outdoor activities or kinds of places to visit you can suggest?
What are your favorite Autumny / Halloween-themed recipes or treats? Any favorite spooky adult beverages? Any creative ways to set candy out indoors? Or really, what are some budget-friendly ways a person can decorate indoors and out? I should have mentioned above, but we're pretty budgetarily limited here. I work in a school and she's under-employed due to the pandemic. So I'm really interested in things which are not only festive, but like...attainable. We're artsy types and I'm sure it would be fun to make decorations.
Sorry for the novel. Thanks for any ideas. I hope it's not too diluted to qualify for the sub.
