We are just over a month out from October, and its time to face the facts.
Most of us have been living in a nightmare since March.
Hallowe'en is going to be different this year. Trick-or-treating is up in the air (although I'm all about Yeet the Treats), parties are certainly a no-go, as well as parades and other celebrations. Frankly, its sad to think about.
However, this is /r/halloween. We celebrate all year round. Not even a pandemic can stop our spirits. This is a core tenant of our community, and as such, I'm banning the phrase, 'Halloween is cancelled'.
This should have very little effect on the community at large, but we often get travelers from /r/all and other places who do not understand the spirit of our community. Comments and posts which state that Hallowe'en is cancelled do not add to our community's discussion and are often inflammatory. Hallowe'en is different this year, but by no means is it cancelled. We can discuss how to celebrate this year, we can lament that certain events are cancelled, but the day itself cannot be removed.
I intend to announce a few community posts and events (virtual, of course) in the coming months to help us keep up the spirit in a socially responsible way, so keep an eye out!
I do want to thank the community for being absolutely awesome and for keeping it spooky as we go into a very strange, but much needed, Hallowe'en season.
Happy Hallowe'en!
