Halloween // Quarantine-O-Ween October 31, 2020: How To?

Hi spooky friends, ghost, ghouls, and witches! I was hoping to start a discussion about how to get the most out of this year's Halloween/Trick-or-treating in Quarantine while adhering to social distancing rules. Now, I know, it's not fun to think about the possiblity of some version of quarantine lasting until then. Putting aside the fun of spooky facemasks, I want to stay as safe as possible while enjoying my favorite holiday.

I'd like to help organize Halloween activities on Halloween for my kids and the neighborhood. Luckily, my neighborhood has an email thread we have been using for other activities during quarantine, so I will be able to share my plans with my neighbors. My thoughts so far:

  • NO candy/toys/etc will be handed out, it will be more about getting out in your costumes and enjoying spooky decorations.

  • Pumpkin Hunt: Leading up to the day, similar to the Easter Egg Hunt we had where people hid eggs (now pumpkins) in their yard and windows for kids to find on walks.

  • Scarecrow Hunt: see above but scarecrows! And a contest?

  • Halloween "selfie stations": instead of decorating near your door, put all your yard decorations in one spot (with good foot traffic) and invite people to take a picture in front! I have so much I could make a few stations....

  • Neighborhood Pumpkin Carving Display: pretty straight forward, invite neighbors to carve pumpkins and put them all together near where people could see them on walks.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading! I welcome any more ideas that would work in these strange times. Stay safe and spooooky ðŸ‘ŧ
