Halloween // Offensive Costume?

So this Halloween, if things settle down, i really want to go to a costume party as a wendigo, but my gf is convinced it'd be offensive as the wendigo is a native american folklore.

Is she right? I just thought it'd be the same as, say, going to a party as a Scandinavian Troll or perhaps an African Crocotta
